Principal’s Welcome

Dear Metro Community,                                                

Welcome to 2013 @ Metro! Every school year at Metro brings in new dreams, new college ambitions, and stronger family bonds that empower Metro to be a dynamic force for change in our students’ lives. After an incredible first year at our new Bayview campus, Metro is more poised than ever to continue its tradition of preparing all students for success in college and making a powerful impact in our communities through inquiry and project-based work.

The 2012-13 school year will continue to ask our students to serve their communities as scientists, activists, and agents of change who bring power to voices and perspectives that are often unheard or unnoticed.  Metro students will continue to discover who they are, where they are, and where they are going through rigorous projects and portfolios, while also finding new ways to communicate larger understandings to each other and to our communities.

Metro is on the rise and truly stepping up as a leader in the Bayview/Hunters Point community. Our partnerships with civic and youth based organizations throughout San Francisco have fostered new programs and procured greater resources that help us truly distinguish ourselves as an authentic environment for preparing students for college and life. We are thrilled to welcome a variety of new community members to our school this year that will help build an even richer college prep environment for our students.Our incoming class of 2016 is one of the strongest classes we have had to date, and we welcome new staff members to our faculty who possess incredible experiences that are directly aligned with Metro’s mission and values.

I am so excited to have you as a member of our community and to be on this journey with you. At Metro, we take college success extremely seriously and we know that being deeply rooted in our community and to each other is what supports students best on this journey. Thank you for being a part of Metro! I can’t wait to see you at an upcoming exhibition, awards ceremony, or portfolio defense in 2013.
