Metro has a new home where it can stay for years. This summer, Metro will be moving to a new location at 400 Mansell St., as our Jackson Street location was a temporary location assigned by San Francisco Unified School District. Our goals in working to secure a new location have been clear to the District: A bigger, well –equipped facility, accessible by public transportation, on a safe campus, where Metro will be able to operate as an independent small school.
Metro will be taking over a part of the Burton High School campus currently occupied by Leadership High School. Metro will occupy the first floor, while Burton High School will continue to occupy the second and third floors. This is a solid location for Metro and Burton. Metro will operate as a separate and independent school from Burton, accessing the campus from our own entrance. Metro will maintain it’s small school feel.
First, it is in a safe and accessible location located in a residential neighborhood in the southern portion of the city. Secondly, the facility is impressive. There are ample classrooms, offices, large hallways and large community spaces both indoor and outdoor. Thirdly, the Burton community’s mission is similar to ours and the Burton community is accustomed to sharing the site. Just as we do, Burton promotes academics and a positive learning environment. For families who reside outside of the City, we will be working with our Transportation Committee and launching the Senior Institute to help reduce the impact of the commute.
